The victim was charged by a pachyderm during a pushback operation towards Waza National Park.
The tragedy occurred on May 23 in the locality of Balda. A woman named Bintou was killed by one of four roaming elephants in the area since yesterday in Maga. In a press release published today, the Minister of Forests and Wildlife (Minfof), Jules Doret Ndongo, indicates that the tragedy occurred following an operation to push back elephants in the direction of Waza Park.
According to Minfof, the populations came out en masse to obstruct the passage of the elephants and the victim was charged by a pachyderm. A situation which contributed to dispersing these animals seen on May 24 in Kongola in the district of Maroua 3.
While waiting to drive the 4 elephants in the new Mindif-Moulvoudaye corridor for the Waza Park, the Minfof invites the populations along this corridor to stay in their homes and avoid approaching the animals. Jules Doret Ndongo counts on the good citizenship of these populations and reassures them of the permanent deployment of the personnel of his ministry on the ground to prepare for any eventuality.
